An easy baked Chocolate Slice with a creamy chocolate frosting.

Ingredients

Chocolate slice

  • 115 grams (1/2 cup or 1 stick) unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 100 grams (1/2 cup) caster sugar
  • 90 grams (1/2 cup) brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 105 grams (3/4 cup) plain flour
  • 20 grams (1/4 cup) cocoa powder
  • 75 grams (1/2 cup) chocolate chips

Chocolate frosting

  • 190 grams (1 and 1/2 cups) icing or powdered sugar
  • 20 grams (1/4 cup) cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons boiling water
  • Grated chocolate, to decorate, optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 180 C (350 F) standard / 160 C (320 F) fan-forced. Grease and line an 8-inch square pan with baking or parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, add butter and sugars and beat until pale and creamy. Add the vanilla and egg and beat again until combined. Sift in the flour and cocoa powder and stir until combined. Add the chocolate chips.
  3. Place the chocolate batter into your prepared tin and bake in the oven for 25 minutes or until a skewer inserted in the middle comes out clean. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  4.  To make the frosting, sift the icing sugar and cocoa into a large mixing bowl. Add butter and 1 tablespoon boiling water and stir to combine.
  5. If the frosting is too thick, add other tablespoon boiling water. Spread frosting over cooled chocolate slice. Sprinkle over grated chocolate. Leave for 10-15 minutes to set. Cut into squares and serve.
