Calling all Twix lovers! This Twix Caramel Chocolate Cake is the cake of all cakes. We are talking two layers of soft and fluffy chocolate cake with a silky smooth caramel frosting, all topped with an avalanche of chopped Twix bars, crushed shortbread cookies and drippy salted caramel sauce.
It is one over-the-top cake but as far as layer cakes go, it’s easy to put together, making it perfect for a party, birthday or celebration of sorts. Or just do what I did, cut a big slice, grab a fork and dive right in!
I was actually home alone when I made this cake and I was literally dancing around the apartment because it was exactly as I had envisaged. I had been baking chocolate cakes all week but I finally stumbled upon the perfect recipe. An easy but tasty chocolate cake that could easily be split into two pans (without the cake ending up too thin).
It is made with vegetable oil instead of butter which leaves it deliciously moist with such a tender crumb – my new fav. Even though this layer cake has a few elements to it, I wanted it to be as easy as possible.
The salted caramel frosting is a whole other level of mouth-watering goodness. Made using my Homemade Salted Caramel, the frosting is seriously rich and creamy – aka irresistible. BUT if you are short on time or don’t wish to attempt homemade caramel, please feel free to use store-bought!
It is an easy way to cut out a step and make the cake even faster. Finally, the fun part. Layer those cakes and add a huge helping of chopped Twix bars, crunchy shortbread crumbs (store-bought is great) and drizzles of caramel sauce!
After I made this cake, there was chocolate smeared all over the kitchen, caramel stuck to the bottom of the pan, frosting on every bench in sight and Twix crumbs all over the floor. But I was in baker’s heaven. After a considerable clean up, I ate two slices just to make sure it was good. It was.
