Enjoy my easy Apple Crumble, featuring juicy apples topped with a crunchy oat crumble. Baked from scratch, this simple apple dessert is a great way to feed a crowd.
Apple Crumble just got a makeover 💅🏻
Meet my easy Apple Crumble that’s buttery, crispy, and completely moreish. Moreover, it’s made with just a handful of very normal ingredients.
If you have a few apples sitting in your fruit bowl and some oats in your pantry, you can make this dessert. And you need to STAT.
I don’t know about you but it’s been years since I’ve had a good Apple Crumble. Not fudgy like a brownie or filled with chocolate like a good cookie, this classic dessert always went to the bottom of my dessert faves.
That was, until now.
This Apple Crumble is so out-of-this-world delicious that I CANNOT get enough. I’ve made it twice this week and I’m praying for leftover apples so I can make it again. And I just know you are going to love it too.
First of all, can we give a big shoutout to desserts that only use a handful of ingredients? This Apple Crumble is the perfect dessert for entertaining because it’s an affordable way to feed a crowd and it’s low on fuss but delivers on taste.
Think juicy, cinnamony apples topped with a crisp, crunchy oat crust that, really, tastes like the best Oatmeal Cookie ever. Add a spoonful of whipped cream or a scoop of ice cream and I’M DONE.
So what makes this Apple Crumble so good?
Well, its a one bowl recipe – you don’t need to cook the apples separately. Just throw it altogether and bake – saving you time and effort.
The crumble is EPIC because it has brown sugar for sweetness and flavour, and plenty of pecans which go toasty, roasty in the oven. Throw in some flour, rolled oats and butter and you have an exceptional cookie crumble that’s INSANELY good.
Plus there’s no need for any special ingredients, only regular pantry items! So it’s also good for those, I’ve-finished-dinner-but-I-need-something-sweet kinda nights. Any one feel me? 🙋♀️
TIPS FOR MAKING PERFECT APPLE CRUMBLE
- You can use any apples you like for this recipe. I tested it using red apples but I’ve also used green ones before.
- Dice the apples into 1/2 inch chunks. I leave the skin on to save time – you can peel them if you like, either or is fine.
- The apples are mixed with some sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice and a little cornflour. If you don’t have cornflour, use plain flour instead. Give them a mix and let their juices start flowing.
- Next make the crumble, by combining together oats, flour, pecans, brown sugar and melted butter. Spread the crumble all over your apples and then bake until golden. You can leave out the pecans or swap them for your preferred nut, but I do recommend using pecans for the best flavour.
- Serve your crumble with whipped cream, a scoop of ice cream or vanilla custard 👌🏻
- Apple Crumble is best eaten fresh and warm from the oven.

- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 50 grams (1/4 cup) caster sugar or granulated sugar
Crumble
- 100 grams (1 cup) rolled oats
- 70 grams (1/2 cup) plain flour or all purpose flour
- 55 grams (1/2 cup) pecans, roughly chopped
- 90 grams (1/2 cup) brown sugar
- 115 grams (1/2 cup or 1 stick) butter, melted

- Add cinnamon, cornflour, lemon juice and sugar to apples. Stir together until apples are fully coated. Transfer to your pie plate and spread out into one even layer.
- To make the crumble, place oats, flour, pecans and brown sugar in a large mixing bowl. Pour over melted butter and stir together until a wet crumble forms.
- Scatter crumble all over the top of the apples until they are completely covered. Place in the oven and bake for 35-40 minutes or until oats are golden and apples are tender.
- Leave apple crumble to cool slightly for 5 minutes before serving with whipped cream or ice cream.
Notes
*Apples: You can use red or green apples in this recipe, whichever you prefer. You can also leave the skin on the apples if you want to save time – I usually do.

Can you eliminate the nuts for a nut-free version or do you need to adjust or replace? Thank you.
Jessica Holmes says
Yes absolutely Sherene! Leaving them out will work just fine.

This was easily the best apple crumble I’ve ever made. I loved how straight-forward the recipe was. I added strawberries since I had them on hand, and OMG it was sooo delicious! Juicy, goo-ey, sweet, and the topping was perfectly crunchy – would highly recommend making this!

Hi Jessica, could I substitute walnuts for the pecans?
Jessica Holmes says
Absolutely!
Krystine says
Loved this! I used cashews as I had some in the cupboard and gave them a little blitz. I’ll be saving this one for future when allowed to have friends around

So glad you enjoyed it! Love the idea of adding cashews Krystine!
Paula says
Sorry but a quick question from a complete novice; Could I bake the topping on its own on a tray? Asking a bit much I know but if it is possible roughly how long would it take time wise?
Jessica Holmes says
Hi Paula, yes it can! I would recommend checking it around the 15-20 minute mark and look to see if it’s golden.
Alissa says
Made this in foods class for a dessert we were doing it was like chopped
Alissa says
Does it have to be in the fridge at all after it’s done?
Jessica Holmes says
It’s best served warm but you can store leftovers in the fridge.
