Since we all love food and travel (in that order), I've decided to start a new mini series on Sweet Menu. The 'Where To Eat' series. I feel too full from eating too much good food over the past four weeks to not share with you a few unmissable gems. Hopefully then, when you are in the middle of your travels craving a good doughnut, you can pop over here and I will tell you where to find one! Let's kick things off with a delicious treat in Washington DC.
I was blown away the instant I walked into Baked and Wired. A sweet bakery situated in Georgetown, a historic area of Washington DC, the cafe had a line flowing right outside the door. Split into two sections, there was a line of eager patrons seeking their next caffeine fix and another for those craving a taste of their mouthwatering baked goods. Their selection of homemade treats were beautifully displayed on cake stands with glass domes covering each individual cupcake (or cakecups as they call them). Each of their creations had delightfully whimsical names like their Unicorn and Rainbows Cakecup or their Soccer Mom seven layer bar.
It was easy to see why this place was packed. I soaked in the lively atmosphere while I munched on their Peanut Butter Bar (pictured above) which was a winning combination of chocolate peanut butter cookie and chocolate peanut butter brownie. I was also blown away by their smores bar, which had a gorgeous layer of caramel inbetween a graham cracker crust and homemade marshmallow, all topped with a thick layer of chocolate. If you are ever in Washington DC, I urge you to stop by and get your sugar fix at Baked and Wired!
